All week I have been thinking about what to write here. Important and newsworthy events that have piqued my interest have been occuring daily. As soon as I would sit down to write, something else new and exciting would happen and I would be distracted. Between the Sarah Palin/David Letterman "crisis", Netanyahu's speech, Carter's near "assassination" by his good buds the Hamasniks, every day a new Health Care speech, Rev. Wrong opening his piehole again, Buchanan the Nazi getting credibility from MSNBC, Biden guessed wrong and the Obama World Tour. Whew, my head is just spinning! Oh, did I mention North Korea wants to nuke somebody?
What has finally gotten my attention and total fascination is the Iranian election and the amazing by-the-minute reports on Twitter. This is in stark contrast to the complete lack of reporting by the MSM and cable outlets. In fact, there is a whole stream of Trending Topics (the most talked about) on Twitter devoted to #cnnfail. It has been remarkable to see all this unfold. When I first signed up for Twitter several months ago, my initial reaction was that it was narcissistic and shallow. It is definitely an acquired taste. Now that I have been tweeting for awhile, I have found a huge community of like-minded Conservatives around the US and the world. We are from diverse backgrounds and yet have found each other. A simple search of #tcot will bring you to people who belong to the Tea Party movement.
The way the Iranian election (#iranelection) and subsequent rebellion has played out in real time has been educational. The Conservative movement can learn from this. I believe our government is moving in the direction of total control of all we take for granted. The Obama administration has taken power and ownership of the banks, car manufacturers (and by extension business- if the government can negate contracts and bond holders, they can do that with all companies), and now potentially the healthcare industry. The government is controlling our money, purchasing power and medical decisions. The "Stimulus" is bogus--it was rammed down our throats so urgently, but I have yet to see any benefit from it here in Arizona and it has been over six months since it was passed. Everything needs to be done urgently--the next quickie is over the Sotomayor nomination. Hurry up and vote her in before you know what she stands for! All this radical change being instituted by Alinsky's heir and no one is taking to the streets. Too busy watching American Idol or the NBA Finals. Back to Twitter.
We should use Twitter to organize, taking a page out of the Alinsky playbook. There are thousands of people on Twitter who are active in the various Tea Party movements, who care about the Constitution and since everything is real-time, they can spread the message around the world 24/7. I saw just a glimpse of this kind of potential grassroots organization this week, when a group of bloggers got together through an email to join together, to promote each other's blogs and spread the Conservative message. All it takes is a few people to get the momentum going, it only took a few very brave souls in Iran to start their election rebellion. So much is happening so fast, if we don't act now it will be too late.
